Summerlin was first conceptualized after Howard Hughes bought 50,000 acres on a plateau on the west side of the Vegas Valley - this, after he saw the empty piece of land while staying at the top floor facing west of the old Desert Inn hotel. After he passed, his heirs created the Howard Hughes corporation and slowly began planning a "suburb". They have done a magnificent job creating a well-balanced, visually pleasing area for people to live.
There are rarely any traffic jams as the planners have carefully integrated the perfect balance of arterial roads and traffic controls so residents can always get to where they are going in a reasonable time.
